Personal monitoring will be carried out among the employees using the Noise Dosimeter. Sound level meter will be used to identify the noise sources as well as their levels and types of noise that are exposed to the employees. In addition, noise mapping will also be carried out to identify zones with Noise Level less or greater than 85dB (A).Requirement: The initial noise exposure monitoring shall be conducted in compliance with Part III, Regulation 9 Factory and Machinery (Noise Exposure) Regulations 1989. The exposure monitoring must be conducted by JKKP registered noise exposure monitoring competent person in accordance with an approved method of monitoring.
Methodology: A precision sound level meter is initially calibrated at a certain decibel. After the measurement is complete, the instrument will be re calibrated. This sound level meter will be used to do the noise mapping at the monitored location when the source is in operation.
After the noise mapping monitoring, a few employees are selected for personal noise monitoring. A dosimeter will be calibrated and fix at the waist of each employee. A microphone is clip on top of the employees' shirt shoulder.
The selected employees are briefed on the purpose of the dosimeter, for example, it is not a speech recording device. Instruction is also given to the employees not to remove the dosimeter unless absolutely necessary and not to cover the microphone with a coat or outer garment. To begin, all the dosimeters are switched on at the same time. At the end of the day, the readings and the time when the monitoring stopped is recorded and the dosimeters will be re calibrated.
